Painting with simple paper stencils

Submitted by on February 17, 2011 – 12:50 pmOne Comment

Today we painted a simple drawing by cutting the shapes of the drawing out in such a way to make a stencil and transferring the image with one colour paint applied with a wet cloth. To make this type of artwork is very easy; all you need to do is drawing simple objects that cut out easily and are quickly recognizable by their shape.

We made two drawings, one pictures a house, two trees, some clouds and flying birds; the other is a lighthouse at sunset. After carefully cutting the shapes out we secured the paper onto some blue paper – but you can use any other colour – with paper tape.  We mixed some acrylic paint to make a violet shade and applied it with a wet cloth. Then we removed the paper stencil and were left with this one tone picture.

  • Wonderful! This has so many dimensions to it: designing your stencil, cutting and then of course painting! Love how it is suitable for all ages – the younger ones do the painting, the older ones can do all!!

Thanks for linking up (and your nice comment re our walnut boats) :-)
