For our fourth and final post in the Todd Oldham’s kid Made Modern series we picked the storage wheel inspired by Ray and Charles Eames. This is a very enjoyable project especially because we used only materials we had in the house and we came up with a finished product that is actually useful. On top of which it was easy to do and it involved very little mess!  As usual we have taken the idea and changed a few details to avoid buying anything and keeping to our recycled crafts routine. The original project, illustrated in the book, uses a round piece of wood and 12 wooden pegs; instead we took the wood out of the picture and made our base with cardboard. For extra strength we stuck together 3 sheets of cardboard to make one solid piece. Then we drew a perfect round shape using a plate as a guide.

When the pegs and the cardboard circle were fully dry, we moved on to the next step of attaching the pegs to the wheel with glue aligning the spring groove with the disc’s edge.

The previous posts in the series featured a cork effect vase, wooden spoon dolls and a hand printed cushion made out of recycled fabric.

Don’t forget to check back next Monday for our next crafts project. We’ll attempt to decorate a wooden shelf to fit my son’s eclectic bedroom furniture.
