How many of us remember with nostalgia the time when we could take the whole day to ourselves to go to the gym, enjoy an afternoon at our favourite spa or simply spend a Sunday morning lounging around and reading a good book. Now that you have kids and the only time you get for yourself is the time to pee and brush your teeth those time out treats seem like a distant memory lost in the realm of motherhood. If you give a mom a Martini… is a book for all those mothers who long to have 10 minutes for themselves without having to worry about toys, nappies, answering why to demanding preschoolers or simply recharge the batteries. Having a little time for yourself doesn’t make you a bad parent only a human one, of course you love your kids and they are the best thing has ever happened to you, but don’t forget yourself in the process. This is definitely the message the authors of If you give a mom a martini… give in their witty entertaining book. A fun, easy and useful read with one hundred tips on finding those precious 10 minutes. Some suggestions are sweet, others practical and funny and some stretch as far as being satiric. In this witty book you will find that other mums share the same desire to spend some time alone and should not feel guilty about it because it doesn’t make you a bad mother, if anything it will make you a better mum because you’ll be a happy one. Whether you go for a relaxing drive, hide in the wardrobes or in the bathroom you should enjoy your 10 minutes.  In this book you will be reassured that taking a quick nap it’s not being lazy but simply Mommy Survival! I found the lyrics by Comedienne Nancy Lombardo to the tune of Let It Be by the Beatles hilarious. Here is a taste of it:

When I find the noise too much to cope with,

Everyone is calling me,

Hide out in the bathroom.

Let me pee, Let me pee.

I am tired of these questions,

What’s for dinner, Where my ball can be?

I hide out in the bathroom.

Let me pee. Let me pee….

The authors are two mums who know exactly how it feels to be a busy mum in need of a ten-minute break: Lyss Stern, mother of two young boys and the founder of Divalysscious Moms and Julie Klappas, mother of two and owner of her own TV production company.

If you give a mom a Martini… makes a good gift to any mum friend. It could also be a fun shower gift in preparation to motherhood.
