Monday crafts: Christmas puzzle blocks

Submitted by on December 20, 2010 – 4:26 amOne Comment

I love wooden blocks so for our weekly craft this week we have made a six sided Christmas puzzle with six cubes. Instead of buying the already made cubes ready to decorate I bought a big piece of wood and had it cut in cubes. This turned out to be a bit of a false economy as I had to sand all the edges and corners to make it child friendly. It was a lot harder than I expected so next time I will opt for a good art and crafts supplier and buy some ready to go; only I have to finish the 26 blocks I have left first!

After putting down some ideas on paper of what I intended to draw on each side, I put the six blocks together and drew the picture with a marker, then I painted it. I repeated the process six times to have a section of the picture on all sides of the cubes. All the puzzle images are seasonal so we have a Christmas tree, holly, a Christmas stocking with holly (my son’s creation from idea to completion), a comet, a snowman and the Nativity hut.

  • WE were given some lovely woodden block puzzles a while back. They are fun, but MUCH harder to do, which is great when you need that next “difficulty” level up! Love your home made ones. Super cute!!! :-)

Thank you for linking up (as always!!!!)
