I can’t stop raving about how pleased I am with the summer camp my kid goes to, which is run by the same people I have written about a while back Bibliomela who host such brilliant learn through play groups. The summer group takes place on the beach and includes activities such as snorkelling, swimming exercises, net fishing, crafts with sand shells and other marine objects, painting on the beach and all sort of games to learn about the marine environment, the fish food chain and the different types of algae. Activities rotate daily so everyday of the week is different. Because they are big on crafts we get a lot of little things lying around the house, that’s when I had the idea to make a little craft project of our own at home. We decorated a cardboard box with a marine theme to collect all the work for the summer group in one place. To get our inspiration we copied as best as we could some of the fantastic illustrations by Axel Scheffler in Tiddler, The Story Telling Fish which is one of Julia Donaldson’s fabulous books. We simply drew some of the images first and then painted them using water based non toxic paints and the box in the picture is the result of a good few hours of fun.
