Christmas Crafts: Personalised Stocking

Filed under Christmas, Crafts, Holidays by Maria at 4:29 am on Nov 30 2009

christmas-stocking-craftThis weekend we have been busy making a personalized Xmas stocking. Although a little stitching was involved to make the stocking itself, the fun part was all done with glue and glitter so my son would enjoy it too. Crafts projects are supposed to be fun and educational and if they are too difficult, kids will lose interest fast and you will end up making things by yourself with a bored child watching. Get the kids working hands-on and it’s bound to be a success.

To make our stocking we used the left over felt from last week’s project, scissors, non toxic fabric glue, glitter glue and cotton wool.

The first part of the project is a little tedious for little ones who cannot stitch, but it can be avoided by using a sewing machine, which speeds up the process.

1. Draw the shape of your stocking on the red felt doubled up to obtain 2 exact sides.

2. Cut around the shape

3. Stitch around the edges either by hand or with a sewing machine.

The second part of the project is the really fun bit.

4. Attach pieces of cotton wool around the top edge of the stocking.

6. Glue the smaller star on the tip of the tree and the other star on the foot.

7. Use the glitter glue to draw Christmas decorations on the tree and to write the name of the stocking’s lucky owner so Santa won’t get confused especially if there is more than one child in the house.

This looks great, can I put this post on my new blog http://motherknowsbest.wordpress.com? It’s a blog containing ideas and advice. I want to start putting some Christmas ideas on there this week. I’d copy the first paragraph or two then link to your post for readers to follow.
