Cleaning up is fun…

I would have never thought kids would compete with each other to clean up, but that’s exactly what they do at the beach summer camp my son goes to.

The educators have come up with a brilliant system for snack hour when one child is in charge of collecting all the bits of paper, bags and wraps from everybody’s snacks without feeling like a chore but a privilege. Everyday there is a new rubbish collector who is named by the one who is stepping down…you wouldn’t believe the requests in place to be the next in line! The rubbish lord or lady is distinguished by a beautiful ethnic chain which he/she gets to wear all day and take home to then pass on to a kid of his/her choice the following morning.  I think this a great idea to make children aware of how important it is to keep a clean environment and most importantly get them involved in actually doing something as basic as cleaning up after themselves, because every little counts!
