Monday Crafts: make a bracelet with foil and old newspapers
I picked up the idea of the foil bracelet from the Kid Made Modern Book by Todd Oldham, but we changed it slightly to incorporate old newspaper as well as foil. This is a very easy craft and the result was very pleasing for my son was so proud to have made a bracelet for mummy. He now expects me to wear it! Ehm, I didn’t think that one through enough. After a tactful move we agreed on the pretend play nature of the bracelet.
I should also hope my husband won’t take this as an idea for my birthday present. I don’t exactly need diamonds, but silver not foil is fine with me.
To make our bracelet we used foil, old newspapers, needle and thick embroidery cotton.
1. Rip some pages from a newspaper and make small balls of different sizes.
2. Cover the newspaper balls in foil to make each individual ball as solid and round as possible.
3. Feed the cotton thread through each ball with a thick needle (this part must be completed by an adult).
4. Secure each side with a double knot so the balls will stay in place.
5. Tie the two extremities together to make the bracelet.
