honey

There has been so much talk in the news lately about the side effects of cough medicine in young children, linking it to permanent liver damage and neurological problems. I for one try to resort to medicine when is absolutely necessary, and everybody knows cough and the common cold don’t benefit from over the counter products. I find that honey is a much better cough remedy than any syrup. A teaspoon of honey not only eases a sore throat, but is full of nutrients and vitamins that strengthen the immunity system. It is one of those old fashion remedies which are still widely used even by paediatricians. Honey is even more efficient when warm, but the taste changes and the smell might put children off it, but you can try to offer it with warm milk instead of sugar.
