Dinosaurs fun from the App Store for young and older kids

Submitted by on February 3, 2011 – 3:52 amNo Comment

Boys’ fascination with dinosaurs starts at an early age and it doesn’t seem to fade as they grow up. My son showed his first interest in dinos when he was about three years old, he is seven now and he knows so much about them already. I guess that will stand him in good stead next year when he will actually study them in school. Dinos are fun and mysterious as they no longer exist, on top of that they can be scary but also sweet so plenty of reasons to fascinate children of all ages. I had a look around Lunchbox Reviews, a useful website that reviews the best iPhone apps for kids to find some dinosaur themed apps that would be fun for young kids but also educational. I like the way Lunchbox Reviews groups the apps by age group and by subject so it is very easy to find exactly what you are looking for.

The first app I downloaded is DinoSingers, a sweet free app for very young children; not an educational app about dinosaurs but entertaining for little ones who will want to listen to the cute red dino in nappies sing the three lovely nursery rhymes in its repertoire: The Muffin Man, the ABC song and Are you Sleeping?

Pocket Dino is a pure fun stacking game for kids of all ages; there is no evident educational value to this app for learning about dinosaurs, but it is fun and it improves hand to eye coordination.

Jigsaurus is a dinosaur puzzle for kids featuring 25 different dinosaurs to piece together. Each dinosaur comes with a card with basic info, which makes this app very informative as well as fun to play.

Finally BigStuff Dinosaurs is an audio book by PickPocket Books with entertaining colourful graphics and information about the fast giants who lived millions of years ago. On top of the factual information, this book is of great value for early readers as the words are highlighted when they are read to help children connecting the spelling to the sound.
