Pop art rocking chair made of pegs
Today’s craft is for older kids who have reached a good level of manual ability to construct things and decorate with precise skill. We are really on a mission here to use all those old comics piling up on the shelves so after decorating a couple of ice cream pots with them, we moved on to decorating a cute rocking chair we had built ourselves with wooden pegs and glue.
To build the chair we used fast drying glue, which allowed us to connect the pegs together without having to wait around for them to dry and risking for the whole thing to collapse. Once we finished the chair we decorated with the decoupage technique. Getting the paper in the small gaps and making sure the whole surface is covered can be tricky and requires a lot of patience, which cannot be asked of young children so this craft is suitable for kids 7 and over.
To complete our chair we painted it with water based varnish.

It must be the time of year for doing things with pegs. I’ve just been reading about making “Peg Fairies” at http://madebyjoel.com/2011/04/clothespin-fairy-dolls.html
It brought back lots of happy memories from my own childhood!
