How to make a Spring lantern with a glass jar and tissue paper

Submitted by on March 9, 2011 – 2:03 amNo Comment

I have so many empty jars stacked away that a craft using one of them was unavoidable. We made Halloween lanterns back in autumn and now it is the turn of a spring lantern that can be used to hold flowers as well as a floating candle.

To make our spring lantern we used an empty glass jar, strips of colourful tissue paper (3 colours), glue, garden wire and a paint brush.

First we glued the strips of tissue paper with the help of a brush alternating the colours. When the jar was fully covered we applied another coat of glue over the whole surface to seal it. We left it to fully dry before moving on to the next step.

In the meanwhile we weaved together three pieces of garden wire to make a plait. When the jar was completely dry we tied the wire just below the rim and with another piece of plaited wire we made a handle.

We put flowers in it for the moment, but we are planning to make more and hang them in the patio this summer with floating candles inside.
