How to turn an old tie into a toy snake

Submitted by on February 16, 2011 – 11:03 amNo Comment

What do you do when your child is off school with the flu? You quickly put your thinking cap on and improvise a range of unexpected crafts. Today we went through daddy’s old stuff such as some out of fashion ties he hardly wears anymore and made a snake. Ties are perfect for making snakes thanks to their length and shape, which recalls the outline of a snake’s head. We picked a yellow and blue tie and filled it with old socks. The eyes and tongue are made with scrap felt attached with glue to keep sewing to a minimum, which was necessary to seal the end. The tie snake joined other crafty snakes we made in the past, enough to play snake and ladders on the rug with homemade snakes – for the ladders we used cut outs.
