I am really into the Apps culture at the moment, especially because there is such a wide range of playful applications out there to develop kids learning skills. This week I have come across yet another fantastic App to improve kids’ understanding of numbers. Arithmaroo 1 A Counting Game for kids starts with basic counting skills that get faster and faster until children train their brain to see the number of the objects  on the screen instantly. The app lets you record your scores with memory for up to 4 players and as you improve your score you move up to a faster symbol.  You cannot choose your symbol, but you need to earn it starting from a little turtle, you move on to a gecko and eventually to a Kangaroo. Players race against their last score trying to get faster every time; scores are “you got it” “you’re faster” and “you’re instant”. Arithmaroo 1 is a simple entertaining game that follows the “right brain” approach, which is based on visual and intuition and results eventually in instant counting.  This App lays the foundation for more maths apps that follow the same principle including instant adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing that will be available soon on iTunes.
