Dr Seuss’ books have helped generations of kids to learn how to read with a simple technique based on repetitions of the primary words written in catching rhymes that are easy to remember. It works well, kids love the classic Dr Seuss’ stories and parents approve so it is not surprising that Dr Seuss has spread his wings and embraced the realm of technology. Though you still find the Dr Seuss classic stories at book stores, you also find them on the App Store. The Cat in the Hat, Dr Seuss’s ABC and How The Grinch Stole Christmas are the only Dr Seuss books available on your iPhone or iPod Touch for now, but more titles are coming soon.

So many parents resort to their iPhone to entertain their children while travelling or standing in a queue at the supermarket and thanks to the many educational applications available resorting to technology is no longer something to be frowned upon.  As you would expect from a Dr Seuss product, the app is highly educational and works in two ways:

Read to me – listen to the narrated story with words highlighted as they are read

Read it Myself – read the story in its traditional format

The interactive screen works well with the word picture association as both the picture and its related word are highlighted when the word is spoken.

We look forward to more Dr Seuss’ apps.
