I took these pictures a few days ago after reading about California Coastal Cleanup Day taking place tomorrow across the state, a great environmental event that sees families, students and everybody who wishes to help working together to save the marine environment.  Such an impressive initiative prompted me to go and take a look at the coastline on my doorstep. I live on the beautiful island of Sardinia with gorgeous white sandy beaches that fill up with tourists during the summer and when the season comes to an end the beaches finally empty out, but the rubbish is left behind.

The amount of plastic bottles, cups and other rubbish made me think how we should take the example of the Californians and do something to save our coastline.

California beaches have actually gotten much cleaner over the years, due to people being more conscientious about the environment, but there is still work to be done. Thanks for this important reminder.

  • This makes me so sad…I live on a beautiful beach as well and everytime we go it makes me so mad to see a coke or beer bottle laying next to a trash can.

  • Beth Whitman says:

My hubby carries a plastic bag around when we go for walks in our neighborhood and picks up the trash along the way. We should all (me included) be more aware of helping cleaning up the environment regularly – not just on designated days. But, a day is a start :-)

  • I wish people in Thailand will take cue from Californian as well. I guess it all can start from one person at a time. :)

  • Dominique says:

It never ceases to amaze me how thoughtless some folks are with littering…especially in such beautiful places.

that trash drives me crazy. we live on a lake and are constantly picking up people’s trash. aaugh!

  • Yeah, it’s completely ridicolous the amount of garbage that gets accumulated on beaches. I remember once hitting a beach in Costa Rica and we couldn’t even get to the water there was that much garbage, 90% plastic!
